There are four regular season games left and there are five teams who have one conference loss.
Prior to the season, the Southeastern Conference released tie breaker scenarios to determine who would play in the SEC title game in case there is a multi-team tie for first or second place.
College football analysts found the tie breaker scenarios somewhat amusing, especially the sixth option, random draw.
As we enter the final month of the regular season, you can see why the SEC and other conferences produced detailed tie breaking scenarios, because the possibility existed for a long jam at the top of the standings.
Here’s a look at the five teams who have one conference loss and who they have left.
#2 Georgia Bulldogs 5-1
* 11/9 at Ole Miss (3-2)
* 11/16 Tennessee (4-1)
* 11/23 UMass
* 11/30 Georgia Tech
#15 Texas A&M Bulldogs
* 11/16 New Mexico State
* 11/23 at Auburn (1-5)
* 11/30 Texas (3-1)
#7 Tennessee Volunteers
* 11/9 Mississippi State 0-5
* 11/16 at Georgia 5-1
* 11/23 UTEP
* 11/30 at Vanderbilt 3-2
#5 Texas Longhorns
* 11/9 Florida 1-4
* 11/16 at Arkansas 3-3
* 11/23 Kentucky 1-6
* 11/30 at Texas A&M 5-1
#14 LSU Tigers
* 11/9 Alabama 3-2
* 11/16 at Florida 2-3
* 11/23 Vanderbilt 3-2
* 11/30 Oklahoma 1-4
The odds for LSU to get to the SEC Championship game are less than 10%.
They could possibly play Texas in the SEC Title game, if the Tigers and Longhorns win out, Georgia loses to either Ole Miss or Tennessee and Vanderbilt knocks off Tennessee.
LSU is also still in contention for a spot in the College Football Playoffs.
But it’s hard to say how many teams from the SEC get into the 12-team tournament.
Alabama and Ole Miss, each have two conference losses, and they are still in contention for the CFP. The Rebels are finally starting to look like the team everyone expected in the preseason and they can make a major statement by beating Georgia this weekend.
The LSU-Bama game has turned into a College Football Playoff elimination game.
A lot will be sorted out over the next month, but this was the idea of the CFP. Many expressed concerns the regular season would be less meaningful by expanding the postseason to 12 teams.
But that’s not the case. We enter the final month of the season with 15 to 18 teams still thinking they can win a national championship.
