Kwon Alexander has quickly made an impact since joining the Saints via a trade in November.
In four games with New Orleans, Alexander has logged 13 tackles, three pass deflections and a fumble recovery. He’s done so bringing his trademark energy.
"I mean, I'm going to be myself regardless,” Alexander said. “I’m never going to change for nobody so I guess that's what they bought me here. Just be myself, have the energy that I have, go out there and play, make big plays, and that's what we've been doing man. We're just trying to do that and turn it up a little bit more.”
He’s also quickly established a chemistry with his teammates particularly linebacker Demario Davis.
“He came in here with no ego, completely humble,” Saint linebacker coach Michael Hodges said. “You see him draw close to 56 immediately and just came in here and said I want to do my part and what ever that is to help us win and he’s done that.”
The only thing that stopped him from making a quicker impact was the COVID-19 protocol which kept him from practicing with the team immediately after the trade. Even with that restriction, Alexander worked to get acclimated.
“As soon as we signed him, the (virtual) meetings started,” Hodges said. ”…We were sneaking in time at 9 O’clock at night or at 7 O’clock in the morning. And so it was a big jump on the front end.”
Hodges said that Alexander’s experience different coordinators and different defensive schemes helped him acclimate quickly as all he mainly had to focus on was learning the Saints terminology.
“He was just a puzzle piece to our puzzle,” Hodges said. “And I’ve said that before and he realizes that. And so he just jumped in and said what is my role. I’m going to do it the way I do it, which is awesome, with that juice that you see on Sunday and, hopefully, it helps us win. And it definitely has.”
