Alvin Kamara: Saints earned 'grimy' win vs. Chargers

The New Orleans Saints earned what running back Alvin Kamara called “a grimy win” Monday Night as they defeated the Los Angeles Chargers in overtime.

The battled back from a 20-3 deficit in the first half to earn a 30-27 victory.

“It was a dirty, dirty game,” Kamara said. “And like I said we just had to claw and scratch and come out on top.”

After a 64-yard Justin Herbert touchdown pass to Mike Williams, New Orleans evened the score courtesy of a 9-yard touchdown run from quarterback Taysom Hill with just 52 seconds to play in the game. The Chargers were able to set a game winning field goal try but Los Angeles’ Michael Badgley’s 50-yard attempt bounced off the right goal post.

The Saints won the coin toss in overtime and were able to drive 48 yards for a 36-yard Wil Lutz field goal.

Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore then made a spectacular four down tackle on the Chargers ensuing drive to seal the victory.

“I’m proud of how we fought back in the second half played better football,” Payton said. “Not exclusively but at times made enough plays to win the game.”
