The New Orleans Saints and their fans are still reeling from Sunday's shutout loss to the San Francisco 49ers. For longtime observers of the Saints, this year's team is bringing back painful memories.

"Bad teams find a way to lose," NFL analyst Mike Detillier told WWL's Tommy Tucker. "This was a winnable football game yesterday, and you found a way to lose it."

NFL analyst Mike Detillier told WWL's Tommy Tucker that the Saints defense played well enough for the Black-and-Gold to win, but dropped passes and other offensive miscues doomed the team.

Detillier says this year's team is reminiscent of some of the Saints teams of the late 1990s and the early 2000s.

"I've seen it before," Detillier said. "I've done  a lot of 'Second Guess' shows in the past with those type of teams. I just haven't done it since '06. Payton sort of changed the world."

Detillier says Sunday's game and the Saints' other failures this season should be enough evidence for team management to consider making changes.

"You better take a hard look at what you've got set up," Detillier said. "I think you got a major sample size of what's happening--a MAJOR sample of it. You can say, 'Oh, they have injuries.' Everybody's got injuries. Come on! You're not paying attention if that's your excuse."

Detillier suggests that the team is suffering from a much deeper problem.

"What's troubling is (that) it's not just your average or above average players not coming through for you. It's your top players. They're not coming through for you, either, and it kind of spreads when those things happen. It spreads across the board."

The Saints travel to Tampa next week to play the Buccaneers on December 5, on Monday Night Football.
