The Saints did anything but sit and wait on Day 3 of the NFL Draft, swinging a second trade up in the 4th round for a QB prospect.
New Orleans sent the No. 227 pick and a 2024 4th rounder to the Jaguars to select Fresno State QB Jake Haener, who shares his alma mater with Saints QB Derek Carr.
The former Fresno State star was another player in attendance at the Senior Bowl and was the MVP of the showcase game. He put up elite numbers in his three seasons with the Bulldogs, completing 731 of 1,072 passes for 9,013 yards and 67 TDs against just 17 interceptions.
Haener was the Saints' fifth pick in the 2023 draft, following Clemson DT Bryan Bresee at 29, Notre Dame DE Isaiah Foskey at 40, TCU RB Kendre Miller at 71, then a trade up to 103 to select Old Dominion OL Nick Saldiveri.
The Saints still own the No. 146 and 257 picks.
