“It was just a debacle.”
Bobby Hebert was not mincing words after the New Orleans Saints lost to the Buffalo Bills 31-6 on Thanksgiving night, their fourth loss in a row.
“It wasn't that long ago that we were in the penthouse,” Hebert said. “Now, we're in the outhouse. And that might be speaking kind words. Because that was like your job is you gotta clean the outhouse now. You're not just going to the outhouse; you gotta clean it.”
Just a month ago, the Saints were 5-2 and fresh off a two possession win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Since that game, the Saints are 0-4, with back-to-back double digit losses.
“It wasn't that long ago we were feeling good about ourselves when we beat Tampa Bay, not to mention the Packers,” Hebert said. “It was a very promising season. Now? You say we're a .500 team; we might not even be a .500 team! And that's very humbling. That's a humiliating experience when you're a part of that.”
After beating the Bucs on Halloween, the Saints needed to just defeat the 3-4 Atlanta Falcons at home to take the lead in the NFC South. New Orleans lost, however; and with this four game losing skid, they could be at the bottom of the division if Atlanta wins this weekend.
“That was embarrassing, to say the least,” Hebert said. “We're playing like we're the Jets or something. That should never be the case. You have all these injuries and all that. But that was an embarrassing performance.
“When you're at the point where you're taking away the football and you don't have an opportunity to score or control the game, it's very humiliating, very humbling,” Hebert went on.
The 25 point loss to the Bills was the biggest loss for the Saints since a 47-14 defeat at Washington in 2015. Next up for New Orleans is another Thursday night game, this time against the 7-4 Dallas Cowboys, who are riding a two game losing streak.
