NOLA-area native Cameron Dantzler emerges as reliable CB for Vikings

Justin Jefferson may be in the midst of the a Rookie of the Year season, but the former LSU isn’t the only Vikings rookie from Louisiana off to a strong start this season.

Former St. Thomas Aquinas standout Cameron Dantzler is also enjoying a solid first NFL season as the cornerback has tallied 42 tackles, four passes defended, two interceptions and a forced fumble in the 10 games he’s played for Minnesota

The Vikings used a third-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft to select Dantzler out of Mississippi State where he logged five interceptions during his three seasons in Starkville, Miss.

Minnesota coach Mike Zimmer said Dantzler is a smart player and impressed during training camp.

“And (he) has continued to improve,” Simmer said. ”He seems to feel very comfortable and confident out there on that edge. He continues to get better there’s obviously a lot of things he has work on but he’s doing well.”

Dantzer has settled in to a Vikings secondary that Saints wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders said plays hard.

“You got Harrison Smith who’s been doing it a long time, going to Pro Bowls,” Sanders said. “Those guys are definitely going to come out and play hard. I know that the Saints, Vikings is kind of a rivalry a little bit. So I know those guys are going to come out and play hard. I'm looking forward to it, it’s Christmas Day. I feel like everybody's going to be watching, those who are not watching basketball, which I pray people would be watching football instead of basketball and we’ve got to go out and put on put on a show.”
