Chris Olave was thrilled when he heard his name called at No. 11, but it wasn't quite as he expected.
He was busy congratulating teammate Garrett Wilson who was selected a pick earlier and wasn't even aware the Saints had traded with the Commanders to jump from 16 to 11.
“I just knew the range where I was gonna go," Olave said. "I had no idea they was gonna trade up. When I got that call right after my teammate was selected, that’s when my dream turned into reality."

But outside of the aggressive move, it was no surprise that the Saints drafted a wide receiver. The latest Ohio State Buckeye headed to New Orleans said he knew the team was planning to add a WR, and he's just excited that it was him.
"They had a lot of interest," Olave said on WWL Radio, speaking with Bobby Hebert, Mike Detillier and Kristian Garic. "I could feel always good vibes talking to the Saints."
Olave will now make a formidable Buckeyes receiver tandem alongside Michael Thomas. The roster was already littered with former Buckeyes, including linebacker Pete Werner, cornerbacks Marshon Lattimore and Bradley Roby, TE Nick Vannett and DE Jalyn Holmes.
It's a pipeline that Olave is glad to continue as he makes his way to the crescent city.
“I feel like every Buckeye that went there they always have good years," Olave said. "They always produce in the league and I feel like they have a really good connection with our program. I can’t wait to be the next one to do that.”
