Coach warns Bears not to repeat C.J. Gardner-Johnson incident, but it happens again

A Chicago Bears receiver was ejected for punching Saints defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson when the team’s played in the regular season.

Because of that incident Bear coach Matt Nagy spent time during the Wednesday's meeting “literally showing and explaining a particular player's actions in games and teaching it.”

“We already knew going into this game about some of that,” Nagy said. “We talked about how every action has a reaction. We are low on numbers at the wide receiver position and the value of that zebra position for us. Our guys need to be stronger. We can't have that happen. We have to understand that. It's two times that it has happened."

Despite their coach’s message a different Bears receiver, Anthony Miller, was ejected for the same thing Sunday afternoon.

In the third quarter of the Saints’ 21-9 win against the Bears Miller threw a punch at Gardner-Johnson after a play. Both players were flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct but Miller was disqualified as he was the only player to throw a punch.

Gardner-Johnson declined to discuss the incident following the win and said he was just focused on playing football.

”We here to win football games we’re not here to do anything else,” he said. “Like coach Payton says, just stay focused. I’m not worried about nothing else. I’m out here to help my teammates. I’m not out here to be an individual show. That’s not what this is for.”
