The New Orleans Saints' joint practice with the Cowboys had some rocky moments -- for a few reasons -- but one thing was clear throughout: Dallas had no real answer for Chris Olave.
The Saints star WR caught at least eight balls, with another squirting through his hands and potentially hitting the turf. As Deuce McAllister broke down on WWL Radio, it was a performance that showed the growing connection between Olave and second-year QB Tyler Shough.
"Every time [Olave] was targeted it was a catch. ... they were cooking,” McAllister said after the practice had wrapped up.

The Saints invested in Olave, a first round pick in 2022, this offseason with a big money extension that will pay him an average of more than $30 million per season. That connection will be all the more important for early in the 2026 season, considering No. 8 pick Jordyn Tyson is expected to miss at least the first month with a hamstring injury. Another featured player will be Devaughn Vele, who drew a rest day on Tuesday. The practice itself was marred to a degree by fights that broke out repeatedly on both sides of the ball.
“It was a good practice. If you’re disappointed in anything it was just the amount of pushing, shoving, punching, fighting, et cetera. I’m sure our guys got some stuff in there as well. ... That would be the only negative," McAllister continued. "But I did think it was some good work for us, to be able to come out here and get some stuff done, but, you know, you never want to have it where it’s every other snap, that’s what you’re having to deal with, because you’re not able to get good work in if that’s the case.”
The Saints will have a short practice on Wednesday prior to another joint practice, this time against the Rams, on Thursday. The Saints will wrap up their California trip on Saturday with their Week 2 preseason game against the Rams at SoFi Stadium.
