Deuce McAllister on Saints loss: "Too many times you're not executing."

Saints vs. Giants
USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Saints lost a heart-breaker in overtime against the New York Giants. What makes it an especially hard pill to swallow was that the Saints had a double digit lead with less than half of the fourth quarter to go.

New Orleans led 21-10 with 7:02 remaining, and New York proceeded to score 17 unanswered points the rest of regulation and then overtime.

WWL Saints color analyst Deuce McAllister echoed WWL NFL analyst Mike Detillier – and many Saints fans – in calling the loss frustrating.

“It's frustrating because you didn't finish,” McAllister said. “That's the most important part about it. You've gotta finish. It's hard to win in the NFL.”

New Orleans is now 2-2 instead of sitting at 3-1 – the same record the Carolina Panthers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have – and the Saints will not play in the Superdome again until October 31 against the Bucs.

“You've gotta be able to go out there and compete every day,” McAllister said. “You've gotta be willing to do your job. Each individual has to be able to go out there and do exactly what he is supposed to do. You can't play hero ball. Too many times you're not executing. It's the little things that get you, and some of those small things ended up hurting them today.

“It's unfortunate,” McAllister continued. “That was an opportunity for them to be able to win this game at home. And you had an 11 point lead. You had an opportunity to [win]. And now you've put yourself in a situation where you've got to find a way to win on the road as you go against a Washington team that just beat the Atlanta Falcons. Man, this was a prime opportunity.”
