A potentially scary incident involving legendary former Saints quarterback Drew Brees made headlines on Friday, but it turned out to be a publicity stunt.
Brees appears to be OK after a jarring video showed a flash of lightning hitting close to his location while filming a commercial for PointsBet.
But the sportsbook later revealed that it was just having "a little fun" by apparently hyping the Brees incident as something more than what it actually was.
The Super Bowl-winning QB and future Hall of Famer was purportedly filming the spot near the Catatumbo River in Columbia, Venezuela.
The location is famous for its “Catatumbo lightning” where storms happen on a nightly basis.
ESPN Saints reporter Katherine Terrell said in a tweet that Brees was "good and that he did not get struck by lightning."
The sportsbook initially sent out a misleading statement suggesting something had gone awry.
“We are aware of the media coverage regarding PointsBet brand ambassador Drew Brees. We are in communication with Brees’ team and will continue to monitor events throughout the coming hours. At this stage we will not be making any further comment.”
But thankfully it appears Brees is OK after the disturbing video.
