The Saints placed quarterback Drew Brees on injured reserve Friday meaning he’ll miss a minimum of three games. Brees told ESPN’s Ed Werder he’s hoping that’s the case and that he’ll be able to return in Week 14.
Brees told Werder he has a total of 11 rib fractures but that doctors have been encouraged with his improved lung function.
Initial scans done Monday on the rib injuries Brees suffered in his team’s 27-13 win against the San Francisco 49ers Sunday showed the NFL's all-time leading passer had five rib fractures and a collapsed lung.
Brees was knocked out of Sunday’s game following a hard hit in the second quarter of the matchup. Backup quarterback Jameis Winston took over for Brees and went 6-of-10 for 63 yards as he helped seal the victory.
