Michael Thomas’ status is uncertain for the Saints’ Monday Night Football matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders after he suffered an injury in Sunday’s win against the Buccaneers.
If Thomas is out, New Orleans will have to rely on other players to make up for his production. However, this wouldn’t be the first time the Saints played without a key contributor.
Last season, the Saints played five games without star quarterback Drew Brees after he suffered a thumb injury in Week 2. New Orleans went 5-0 in those games.
"Well, I mean, I think we definitely have a next man up mentality,” Brees said. “I think everybody's always ready to step into a role and fulfill that role. I think our coaching staff does a great job of putting guys in the best position to succeed and building a game plan and around the strengths of the guys that we do have."
Saints running back Alvin Kamara echoed his quarterback when discussing that mentality.
“Every week guys are ready to play,” Kamara said. “(It's) unfortunate with Mike (Thomas). We don't know the status, but it's a next man up mentality. Guys in practice they're working hard. Everybody takes pride in knowing what to do in case somebody goes down, Drew went down last year, I went down, it is what it is. You've got to keep moving."
