'He set the bar so high': See reaction to Saints legend Drew Brees landing in HOF

Drew Brees was officially announced this week as a member of the NFL's 2026 Hall of Fame class, but there was little mystery to as to whether his name would be announced at this year's NFL honors.

It was a foregone conclusion the moment Brees retired that -- assuming he never made a return to restart the clock -- he'd become the Saints' first-ever first-ballot inductee. The Caesars Superdome even went so far as to flash up "Congrats Drew" on the building hours prior to the official announcement.

The accolades speak for themselves, and Brees was simply that special. So what was the reaction from across the Saints orbit after the announcement was made? Here's a rundown.

━━
The New Orleans Saints (of course)

"Every generation has a standard. For New Orleans, it wore No. 9"

━━
Saints team owner Gayle Benson

"Drew's work ethic, preparation and passion for the game helped launch the New Orleans Saints to new heights. Drew raised the standard for excellence throughout our entire organization and established a culture of leadership and accountability that continues to guide us today. He elevated everyone around him and earned the deepest respect of all players, coaches, and staff across the organization. In addition to his exceptional performance on the field and the victories he led, highlighted by the Super Bowl XLIV championship, Drew's impact extended well beyond the game. Through his commitment to community service and leadership off the field, he played a significant role in inspiring and strengthening the Gulf South. Drew is unquestionably a first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Famer, and we congratulate him as he rightfully takes his place among the greatest players in the history of the National Football League.

━━
Saints GM Mickey Loomis

"For 15 years, Drew Brees represented New Orleans Saints football perfectly. When we signed him in 2006, he played an important role in transforming our franchise. Drew set the standard for the quarterback position not only within our organization, but across the National Football League -- a standard defined by his performance, his preparation, and his leadership. We congratulate Drew on his first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Fame selection."

━━
Former Saints head coach Sean Payton

"He came when most were leaving... Set a bar so high for all of us... He [led] immediately."

━━
Former Saints WR Michael Thomas

"Drew Brees what an honor to have had the opportunity to get it in with you. The best ever."

━━
New Orleans native and former ESPN anchor Stan Verrett (now Saints gameday host)

"I know I speak for a lot of New Orleanians when I say no athlete brought us more joy as fans than Drew Brees."

━━
Former Saints QB Chase Daniel

"Drew treated everyone the same -- from the backup to the janitor. Never acted above anyone. Made people feel valued. And he loved the grind."

━━
Former Saints LB Scott Shanle

"We were blessed to have a leader that not only was our best player but he was our hardest worker. Every day he stepped into the building dedicated himself to perfecting the game and leading our team."
