Things haven't always been perfect for the New Orleans Saints this preseason. They went six straight quarters without a point leading into the preseason finale. But they did find a way to take down the Cowboys 27-24 on Friday at AT&T Stadium.
That means all is right with the world, according to the Cajun Cannon Bobby Hebert, at least for now.
“It’s always a great day in America and a great day heading into the weekend when you can beat the Cowgirls,” Hebert said in his postgame rant.

The Saints were in control throughout the game and at one point head a 24-9 lead, but Dallas Charged back with a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to tie the game. Spencer Rattler drew the start and pinned the Saints to a 17-19 lead at halftime. Zach Wilson took over at halftime and led two scoring drives, the second of which ended with a go-ahead 53-yard field goal by newly signed kicker Daniel Carlson.
The win echoed a recent theme between these two teams, with the Saints winning 11 of the past 15 series meetings.
"I think this bodes well for the team," Hebert continued. "You want any kind of momentum. You could see the whole team was into it."
It was a day that featured a highly efficient run game, with each of Audric Estime (4 for 46 yards), Kendre Miller (9 for 42) and Zamir White (4 for 23, TD) averaging over 4 yards per carry.
But the performance was particularly welcome for Rattler, who had a rough go in his preseason opener and failed to lead the offense to points against the Rams despite three drives into the red zone. Hebert says he's seen enough. Rattler has earned the backup job.
“I think right now, what I’ve witnessed, is that Spencer Rattler is the No. 2 quarterback," Hebert said, "and Zach Wilson, I think … let’s say Zach Wilson really would have to beat out Spencer Rattler to be the No. 2, that you would tend to say, OK, Zach, we like what you’ve done for us and you can grow, but you’re a practice squad kind of guy.”
The next step for the Saints will be to trim down from 90 to their 53-man regular season roster. All roster cuts must be submitted to the league by 3 p.m. on Sunday.
