“The Saints were dominant.”
That's how Bobby Hebert summarized New Orleans' 21-9 victory over the Chicago Bears. “The game kind of played out as it should have.”
The Saints were a double digit favorite and won by 12 points. They outgained the Bears 385-239 and controlled the ball for just a hair under two thirds of the game.
“Time of possession was a joke, come on,” Hebert said. “We had the ball almost 2-1, basically 39 minutes to their 21 [minutes]. You know why that doesn't surprise me? We can control the tempo of a game. The Saints are #3 in time of possession.”

The New Orleans offense struggled in the first half; after a couple solid drives in the first quarter, no second quarter drive lasted longer 2:58 or netted points. That changed after halftime, however. The Saints possessed the ball for 21:39 of the 30 minutes, stringing together drives of 12, 15, and 11 plays. The defense, meanwhile, sent the Bears offense into hibernation outside of their final, garbage-time drive.
“The Bears on third down offense, they've been el sucko,” Hebert said. “They went 1-10, and I'm surprised they even got a first down considering how good I think the Saints defense is.”
That lone third down conversion and 4 of their 11 first downs came on that last drive.
“That's why I think, going forward, whether we play Tampa Bay, Green Bay, or the Super Bowl possibly, whoever you think is the best of the best,” Bobby said, “we're going to win a Super Bowl if our defense kicks ass.
“Everyone wants to know what our offense is doing,” Hebert continued. “I'm telling you this year the mantra of this team is can we be dominant on defense and be efficient on offense. Because, in the past, we were dominant on offense and efficient on defense. The script has been flipped. If we can kick butt on defense, I know we have a fighting chance.”
