Kwon Alexander is set to make his Saints debut Sunday, when New Orleans faces the team he was just traded from, the San Francisco 49ers at 3:25 p.m.
The linebacker, who joined the Saints via a trade last week, said he is treating this game like all the others.
“I’m just going to go out there and do what I do what I do best,” Alexander said. “Just have fun and enjoy the game."
Alexander said his focus this week has been on getting up to speed with the Saints gameplan.
"Really the playbook first and then everything else comes with it,” Alexander said. “The chemistry with the team and everything like that, that's going to take time, but right now, everything's been going well with just the playbook so I can be on point and be with everybody else."
Saints defensive coordinator Dennis Allen said the team has approached bringing Alexander on board similarly to how it did with cornerback Janoris Jenkins after the team acquired him last season.
“He's been working in practice trying to get accustomed to what we're doing defensively,” Allen said. “The good thing about it is that he's a veteran player and he's played in a couple different systems. There's not a lot that we're doing that he hasn't done before. Maybe we teach it a little differently and use a little bit different terminology. That's the biggest factor in that.”
Allen said that Alexander has done a nice job of picking that up so far.
“Everything is going to be smooth this week when I've got it all down and I have it down by Sunday,” Alexander said. “Everything will be ready to go."
The 6-foot-1, 227-pound linebacker also said he’s excited about being back in the state where he played his college football.
The Alabama native played three seasons at LSU.
"Everything is special,” he said. “The people, just being close to home too. The family can come watch the game, just being close to my son. Everything around here is just legendary, man. I'm just happy to be back. Especially in the boot, man. They show major love and I just can't wait to go out there and ball for them."
