New Orleans Saints punter Thomas Morstead appeared on Boot Krewe Media’s Sports Overtime podcast and told the show that he is not retiring.
However, he did say he understood why there might be some speculation.
“Honestly, I think, it’s a little bit warranted,” he said. “I didn’t have a great year last year. All I can promise is that I’ll do everything I can to be back where I know I’m capable.”

Morstead’s yards per punt, 43.1, were the lowest of his career but the Saints still finished top 10 in the NFL in net punting average.
Morstead told the show that he started this season a bit behind as an offseason back injury hindered his training and also mentioned an eye issue that will be corrected this offseason but said he mainly felt he was inconsistent with his punts this past season.
Since the Saints drafted him in 2009, Morstead has been one of the NFL’s top specialists, averaging 46.5 yards per punt during his career.
