There's a new QB coming to town. Ian Book out of Notre Dame was the New Orleans Saints 4th round selection in the 2021 NFL draft. WWL's draft krewe of Deuce McAllister, Kristian Garic and Mike Detillier asked him what was it like getting the big call from the Black & Gold.
"A total dream come true," Book said. "Just so excited, sitting there anxiously waiting for a call. I really think this is such an unbelievable opportunity for me. Once I heard it was the Saints I got a little emotional, my heart started beating really fast and I got to celebrate with the family. It was an unbelievable experience and I just I can't wait. I'm so excited."
Detillier pointed out that Coach Sean Payton recently was on the Dan Patrick Show and said Book remined him of himself.
"That kid at Notre Dame (Ian Book) is pretty scrappy," Payton said. "He's pretty interesting to watch on tape." Did Book hear that interveiw?
"I was fired up when he said that," the new Saints QB said. "Honestly, just a true honor. It fires me up to be going there and have a coach like that say something like that is so valuable. It really just fire me up and got me excited. I was really hoping it would be them."
The 23-year-old completed 64.6% of his passes last season and threw for 2,830 yards over 12 games for Notre Dame. Book had 15 touchdowns, 3 interceptions for a 144.3 passer rating. He's got sweet feet as well, rushing for 485 yards with 9 scores.
"I just want to keep dialing in on the things that have made me the QB I am today. I really pride myself on my leadership, playmaking ability as well as accuracy. Accuracy has been my biggest thing for the longest time. I try to just be as accurate as I can because that's what the QBs got to do."
