Saints still have to 'wait and see' if Alvin Kamara is able to play, Sean Payton says

New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton said Friday that the team has been trying to keep running back Alvin Kamara, who’s currently on the NFL’s reserve/COVID-19 list, involved in the team’s Wild Card round preparation, but added that the coaching staff still isn’t sure if the Pro Bowler will suit up Sunday against the Bears.

“There’s a live video cam and we’ve had a number of things,” Payton said. “But I don’t want that to be the big story because we still have to wait and see if he’s able to play.”

Kamara missed the Saints regular season finale, a win against the Carolina Panthers, after he was placed on the NFL’s reserve/COVID-19 list, following a reported positive test for the coronavirus.

Per league protocol, the earliest Kamara could return to the Saints active roster is Sunday.

Kamara, who led the Saints in both rushing and receiving this years, tweeted “See y’all Sunday” Thursday night likely indicating his intention to play when New Orleans hosts Chicago at 3:40 p.m. in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
