Day 3 of Saints training camp had three players not present for another day of wearing just shells. Coach Payton said full pads come on TUESDAY.

Cornerback Patrick Robinson joined fellow CB Grant Haley and rookie tight end Dylan Soehner on the absent list. Robinson was excused, dealing with a personal matter.

If you look over the roster, you will see a familiar face back at wide receiver. Tommylee Lewis appearing in 5 games for the Black & Gold in 2020. He gives them someone who knows the offense well, and can also plays a role on special teams.

Lewis will be wearing the #6 after he clears thru NFL COVID protocols.  But, on Saturday, Alvin Kamara pulled a number swap. He was wearing his old college number which Super Bowl Champion punter Thomas Morstead approved of.

It was Jameis Winston’s turn to take starting reps in the QB competition, and it did not look as effortless as the previous 2 outings. He went 3-of-7 in team drills with some underthrown passes. One miss was a play that WR Tre’Quan Smith slipped trying to make a cut on his route.

Taysom Hill went 6-of-7 with the 2nd team and had the play of the day tossing a pretty back-shoulder strike that Marquez Callaway brought in on the sidleine. There was really nothing more rookie Paulson Adebo could have done coverage wise; just a perfectly placed ball. Hill only miss of the day was a dropped screen pass.

Crawley crafty at corner

Plenty of opportunity at cornerback on this team and Ken Crawley is a guy who has experience with Dennis Allen’s defense. He broke up 2 passes in one-on-one drills and got a chance to run with the first team defense.
In team drills, Crawley was also able to prevent Tre’Quan Smith from making a nice grab on the sideline. He forced Smith to come down with the ball out-of-bounds due to his positioning.

Blake goes BOOM on punts

It was BOMBS AWAY for Blake Gillikin. He showed off his leg, booming punts and Coach Payton said he was consistent and strong in his reps. Gillkin is competing for the punter job against rookie Nolan Cooney

Deonte Harris, Marquez Callaway, Jalen McCleskey and Easop Winston were working on the punt return krewe.
