New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is seeking a second opinion on his injuries in order to help determine if placing him on injured reserve is the best course of action, according to a report from ESPN's Ed Werder.

Initial scans done Monday on the rib injuries Brees suffered in his team’s 27-13 win against the San Francisco 49ers Sunday showed the NFL's all-time leading passer had multiple rib fractures and a collapsed lung.

Werder reports that Brees could have more fractured ribs.

Brees was knocked out of Sunday’s game following a hard hit in the second quarter of the matchup. Backup quarterback Jameis Winston took over for Brees and went 6-of-10 for 63 yards as he helped seal the victory.

If Brees goes on injured reserve, it would mean he'd miss at least three games.
