The Saints' poor injury luck wasn't contained to just the offensive side of the ball on Monday.
Starting cornerback Ken Crawley suffered an injury in the game, according to a report from Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.football, and he is expected to miss multiple weeks of action. Defensive tackle Jalen Dalton suffered a torn triceps and will undergo surgery. He's been sent to injured reserve.
Crawley was not in attendance when the Saints took the practice field, along with a handful of others, less than 24 hours after their second preseason game. As he has all camp, Crawley was impressive working at the outside corner spot. He was targeted multiple times in the game while locked in man coverage but continued to lock down as the Jaguars struggled to muster much offense over the first three quarters. Crawley logged 24 snaps in the 23-21 victory.
While the unspecified injury's timeline is far from optimal, it doesn't necessarily rule out any game snaps for the veteran. It's unknown whether he'd have been among the group that rested in the third game of the preseason, which is followed by an open week before the start of the regular season.
The Saints also suffered injuries at the tight end and defensive tackle positions. Adam Trautman (ankle/foot) and Garrett Griffin (knee) each suffered injuries in the game and were sent for MRIs. Trautman is reported to have escaped major injury. There's been no update yet on Griffin, but neither was present at Saturday's practice. DT Jalen Dalton was also sent to injured reserve, along with a handful of other roster moves ahead of Tuesday's deadline to cut down to 80 plays.
The Saints are next in action Saturday against the Arizona Cardinals.
