Saints 35, Lions 29: New Orleans overcomes slow start to win at Detroit

The New Orleans Saints overcame a disastrous start to earn a 35-29 victory against the Detroit Lions.

After falling behind 14-0 to the Lions (1-3), the Saints (2-2) scored 35-straight points en route to the victory.


Here's how it happened:

First quarter

Lions 7, New Orleans 0, 11:58: Deandre Swift caught a 7-yard pass from Matthew Stafford to cap and eight-play, 77yard drive. Danny Amendola's 50-yard reception earlier in the drive was a key play.

Lions 14, New Orleans 0, 10:23: Kenny Golladay hauled in a 15-yard pass from Stafford. The score was set up after Lions cornerback Darryl Roberts intercepted Saints quarterback Drew Brees' first pass attempt which was tipped by defensive tackle Danny Shelton.

Lions 14, Saints 7, 3:08: Latavius Murray score on a 3-yard run to finish a 13-play 75-yard drive.

Second quarter

Saints 14, Lions 14, 10:10: Alvin Kamara finished a 10-play, 80-yard drive with a 1-yard run

Saints 21, Lions 14, 3:03: Tre'Quan Smith caught a 2-yard touchdown pass from Brees to cap a 9-play, 80-yard drive that was started after Patrick Robinson intercepted a pass from Stafford in the endzone.

Saints, 28, Lions 14, 0:44: Smith hauled in his second touchdown of the game, a 20-yarder from Brees.

Third quarter

Saints 35, Lions 14, 8:58: Murray scored his second touchdown of the game with a 6-yard run to cap a 10-play, 75-yard drive.

Saints 35, Lions 21, 4:24: Stafford connected with tight end T.J. Hockenson for a 1-yard score to cap an 11-play, 75-yard drive.

Fourth quarter

Saints 35, Lions 29, 4:19: Adrian Peterson scored on a 1-yard run to cap an 11-play, 75-yard drive.
