Saints announce new alternate helmet, and it's what fans have been asking for

Things are going to be looking a bit different for the New Orleans Saints, at least for a few games, in the 2025 season.

The team unveiled a new alternate helmet Wednesday morning, white alternate option that features the traditional team logo on the sides and a gold stripe down the media, cast over mis fleur de lis within the design. The team posted a teaser on Tuesday building up the announcement. The team posted a video announcing the new design with the words "you're welcome," referencing the longtime fan interest in a white helmet option.

The helmet also appears to have a black speckled look within the white finish and feature the words "New Orleans" in the Saints font on the base at the back. The Saints did not announce when they intend to debut the helmets, but it was confirmed that they'll be worn with the highly popular color rush jerseys, originally debuted in 2017. The team plays its first two games of the 2025 season at home (Cardinals and 49ers), marking two potential early opportunities to show it off to the home crowd.

Early reception for the design was largely positive on social media, something of a rarity these days. One X user commented "Not gonna lie, y'all cooked with this one," with another posting "fire for the color rush."

For the Saints it's the second true alternate helmet design in the past several years, alongside a black and gold concept with a broad gold stripe made up of small fleur de lis. That helmet was debuted in London when the Saints faced the Vikings in Week 4 of the 2023 season. The throwback/alternates push was spurred by an NFL rule change in 2021 to loosen up restrictions on alternate designs, leading to a wave of new looks arriving across the league during that span.

The Saints have largely remained constant from a helmet design perspective throughout the franchise's history, though they did throw back to an older logo design on their helmets last season. The Saints have one major alternate jersey design in their all-white color rush uniforms, though they do frequently change up colors from game to game.

The Saints kick off training camp later this month before heading out to Irvine for 10 days where they will hold multiple practices before and after their preseason opener against the Chargers on Aug. 10.
