The day before a day-off was a warm one for the Saints as there wasn’t much cloud cover at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center. Joining the non-existence of shade was still Tre’Quan Smith. The wide receiver left practice early on Tuesday and has not been accounted for since.
Also marked absent was tight end Ethan Wolfe, safety P.J.
Williams and corner Patrick Robinson, while #85 Josh Pederson has been added to the roster.
The son of Super Bowl winning coach Doug Pederson is an undrafted rookie TE who played college ball at Louisiana–Monroe. Pederson finished with 99 catches, 1,191 yards and 11 TD in 4-year Warhawks career.
Also, Ryan Glasgow has been added to the reserve/retired list. Coach Payton said the 6ft3, 300-pound defensive tackle was going back to school to earn his Master’s degree. The 27-year-old was a 4th round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in 2017.
No separation in QB competition
It was Taysom time with the ones on Saturday and he finished strong to complete 4-of-7 attempts, but appeared to hold the football a little long. He had a pass batted down by DT Jalen Dalton, CB Ken Crawley broke up another one and he would have gotten sacked by DE Carl Granderson. Hill’s best toss of the day was a dart in the corner of the end zone to WR Marquez Callaway.
Jameis Winston was running the twos and didn’t have a great session finishing 5-of-8 passing with one interception. He did hit rookie Kawaan Baker for a TD. Winston’s 2nd pick of camp was due to an underthrown pass that new DB Adonis Alexander came away with.
Pass rush look like a problem
Applying pressure is a must. Give any NFL QB time to throw and you’re going to get picked apart. Rookie DE Payton Turner has been a bright light since the pads have come on and Carl Granderson looks like a menace.
Granderson recorded at least three sacks on the day while Tanoh Kpassagnon broke through for one as well. Meanwhile, veterans Cam Jordan and Marcus Davenport have been solid. This group looks like it’s going to cause problems for opposing offenses.
The Black & Gold Sunday off. The next workout session comes Monday, with the next time fans will be in attendance is Aug. 20.
