Saints cancel last fan-attended practice of training camp due to extreme heat

The New Orleans Saints have finished their open practice schedule a bit earlier than expected.

The team announced Tuesday afternoon that the final open practice of the 2023 training camp slate would be cancelled due to the extreme and persistent heat in South Louisiana. The practice had been scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 10. The team still intends to practice that day, but it'll take place inside.

"We would like to thank all fans for their overwhelming support with each open practice being 'sold out,' read the statement. "The fans passionate support each practice, despite the conditions, made a huge impact on the team and the entire Saints organization would like to thank all who attended 2023 Saints Training Camp. We look forward to, and appreciate, your continued support this season."

The Saints held six practices that were fan-attended, the most recent of which came on Sunday. The bleachers were full each day. After the fourth practice the team announced a change to limit the open practice portion to one hour.

The team intends to conduct a majority, if not all, of its practices inside the Ochsner Sports Performance Center. They'll be back to work on Wednesday ahead of a preseason opener against the Kansas City Chiefs at the Caesars Superdome. From there it'll be two weeks of joint practice sessions, first with the Chargers out west, then against the Texans in Metarie.

The Saints kick off the 2023 season at home against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 10.
