Saints fans run gamut of emotions and confidence about Monday’s game

USA TODAY

The first bar I walked into I was confronted by a young woman who proclaimed: “See me with my Saints shirt on, don’t ya? Alright!”

Whether it’s unbridled enthusiasm or calm, confident analysis, fans are ready for the Black and Gold to steal the Silver and Black’s thunder and take a victory from the Raiders.

The two teams have met thirteen times previously, and have a record of 6-6-1.

Fans are ready for the tie breaker.

“The Saints, obviously,” Treme started.  “Brees might be a little old, he might not have the arm he used to have, but that don’t mean he can’t beat Carr cause Carr—honestly I’m gonna put it like this: Carr is overrated!”

Sometimes the best fan analysis is found outside the bar, in the parking lot, as people are making their way in to watch the game.

Becky is a healthcare professional.

She’s heading into a well-known sports bar off Clearview and Veterans.

Her take is reserved, cerebral, but laser focused when asked about the loss of wide receiver Michael Thomas:  “I didn’t like the fact that he got injured and his ankle is going to give him some problems,” she said.  “But the bottom line is this team is ready to play and it’s going to step up and do what it needs to do.”

Down the street, at another sports bar the fans are watching the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals, enjoying dinner and camaraderie of friends at their favorite watering hole.

It’s here I meet another female Saints fan… …whose heart belongs to a special player:

“Monday night I am expecting Justin Hardy to just be explosive.  He is one of the most underrated players we have—probably in the league, but definitely on the Saints.  And he kills it every week for special teams.”

There are fans who cheer for the big names: Brees, Kamara, Hill, etc.  Then there are the unique fans, like the ones mentioned in this article.

Dirk is among them, well thought out analysis of the team and how it should go against the Raiders Monday Night:  “They got a nice defense, the Saints overall is my team, the Saints are going to go in there with nice game plan…  and, basically, I think the Saints are going to come out on top by about…  If it don’t be six it’s going to be by thirteen.”

I’ll take those numbers.  Kickoff is at 7:15 right here on WWL AM/FM and .COM.
