With Hurricane Delta tracking west of New Orleans, the Saints (2-2) will remain in the city as they prepare to face the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football.
“I think we’re fortunate, right now, it appears that we are going to be able to stay and this storm is staying a little bit more toward the west of us, so we’re trying to really focus on this game,” Saints coach Sean Payton said. “(We’re) focused on what we have to do to improve as a team here after four weeks, on a number of things that are painfully glaring and that’s what we’re tasked to do right now and get ready to play this team.”
The Chargers (1-3) will visit New Orleans after a loss to the Saints NFC rival Tampa Bay. Payton said Los Angeles despite their record has been playing well.
“They’ve been in a lot of close games, were ahead last week 24-7 before the half,” Payton said. “You just watch the film and you can see the quality of the team we’re playing. We know this team well. We’ve practiced with them at least two or three times in the last five years.”
The Saints are coming off of a win Sunday against the Detroit Lions but Payton said New Orleans still has much to improve on.
“I think, situationally, defensively there’s some numbers that are decent but our red zone defense and our third down defense are going to have to improve,” he said. “Offensively our consistency relative to our protections, our run game, it was better last week and yet there’s still break downs in our schemes that we can clean up and shore up relative to throwing the football.”
