Saints Hall of Famer Derland Moore dies at 68

New Orleans Saints Hall of Famer Derland Moore died Thursday at the age of 68, the team announced.

Moore, a defensive tackle, played 13 seasons in New Orleans after being drafted by the Saints in the second round of the 1973 NFL Draft.

He started 146 of his 170 career games with Saints from 1973-1985, before the 6-foot-4, 250-pounder finished his 14-year career with the New York Jets in 1986.
Moore officially has 12 career sacks as the NFL did not record the statistic until 1982.

He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1983, and in addition to being named to the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, he was also selected as one of the Saints’ 50 greatest players in 2016.

Moore played his college football at Oklahoma. He initially found his way to Norman via a scholarship from the Sooners’ track team. While there he walked on to Oklahoma’s football team and went on to start every game as a defensive tackle his freshman season.
