If you can’t beat ‘em…get ‘em to join you! That’s what the Saints did by acquiring wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders in free agency. New Orleans had no answer for him last season when San Francisco game to the Superdome in week 14.
Sanders stat line looked like my 10-year-old was playing a video game. He finished with 7 catches for 157 yards and a touchdown. The WR also threw a 35-yard TD pass.
“He was a pain in the butt that game,” said Saints head Coach Sean Payton. “He's one of those real smart football guys that can track the ball down the field. Hopefully, we can find him some of those explosive plays as we move forward, but he had a handful of big plays the other night and is a big part of what we're doing."
Sanders missed 2 games this season due to the coronavirus, but has made 30 catches for 342 yards and 3 TDs in 6 contests wearing Black & Gold. His chemistry with quarterback Drew Brees is just really starting to get cooking after not having a traditional offseason and preseason before this season kicked-off.
“I remember watching years of Denver film, him always showing up, a guy that's so versatile and could run so many different routes,” said Brees. “Just a great feel for the game. I heard a lot of good things about him."
"I remember thinking to myself when San Fran got him that, we have to face this guy; they just got that much better. And then, he signs with us this offseason to my surprise. That was a joy for me getting to know I will have a chance to play with a guy like that."
Here’s one of the (8 million) reasons I think SNF is the best. The easy rollout after that Sanders TD catch would be him dancing in the end zone. Instead, we get a much more emotional last shot of he & Brees. #perfection pic.twitter.com/7oU0K8YlB9
