Saints initial Week 6 injury report: Chase Young returns to practice

The New Orleans Saints got several pieces of positive news at Wednesday's practice, but the biggest was clear: Chase Young made his return.

Young (calf) wasn't in action for stretch, but joined the DL group a few minutes in for his first limited practice since he departed with an injury the Wednesday before Week 1. Young had been going through rehab and head coach Kellen Moore repeatedly praised his pass-rusher for handling the injury correctly despite the extended absence.

“Limited today, but looked good, took some … steps in the right direction," Moore said. "So it was fun to see him out there.”

RG Cesar Ruiz (ankle) and safety Justin Reid (concussion) were also in action, indicating they have a potential to play this week. Ruiz went down with an ankle injury during the loss to the Bills and did not play against the Giants. Reid left after the first defensive drive against the Giants and is currently working through the concussion protocol.

Here's how the initial injury report broke down on Wednesday:
LP = limited participation; FP = full participation; DNP = did not participate
- CB Isaac Yiadom (hamstring: DNP
- TE Juwan Johnson (ankle): LP
- RB Alvin Kamara (ankle): LP
- LG Trevor Penning (ankle): LP
- S Justin Reid (concussion): LP
- RG Cesar Ruiz (ankle): LP
- DE Chase Young (calf): LP
- OL Dillon Radunz (toe): FP
- DT John Ridgeway (shoulder): FP

The Saints only had one DNP, a positive scenario five weeks into any NFL season. Moore wouldn't declare whether Yiadom would be an IR candidate, but the team did sign veteran Michael Davis, who made his practice debut in the No. 43.

OL Dillon Radunz (toe) was also upgraded to a full participant.

Here's how the Patriots side of things broke down:
- S Jaylinn Hawkins (hamstring): DNP
- DE Keion White (elbow): DNP
- DT Christian Barmore (NIR - other): LP
- LB K'Lavon Chaisson (knee): LP
- DT Joshua Farmer (ankle): LP
- LB Anfernee Jennings (ankle): LP
- DT Milton Williams (ankle): LP
- LB Marte Mapu (neck): FP
- G Mike Onwenu (shoulder/thigh): FP

The Saints (1-4) host the Patriots (3-2) at noon Sunday inside the Caesars Superdome. Catch all the action on WWL and Audacy.
