The New Orleans Saints didn't actually practice on Monday, but their initial injury report still raises some serious questions with a short turnaround for Thursday Night Football.
Six players did not participate, including both starting tackles for Week 6 in James Hurst (ankle) and Ryan Ramczyk (concussion). Both players left early with injuries and did not return. There were also a handful of key players added to the injury report with limited participation, including defensive leaders Demario Davis (knee) and Tyrann Mathieu (foot).
See the full, estimated Saints injury report for Monday below:
DNP = did not participate; LP = limited participation; FP = full participation
- TE Juwan Johnson (calf): DNP
- S J.T. Gray (hamstring): DNP
- OT Landon Young (hip): DNP
- OL James Hurst (ankle): DNP
- RT Ryan Ramczyk (concussion): DNP
- LB Demario Davis (knee): DNP
- S Lonnie Johnson (hamstring): LP
- DE Cam Jordan (back): LP
- S Tyrann Mathieu (foot): LP
- WR Chris Olave (toe): LP
- G Andrus Peat (groin): LP
- RB Jamaal Williams (hamstring): LP
- QB Derek Carr (shoulder/chest): LP
- QB Jake Haener (return from suspension): FP
The situation on the offensive line is a major concern. If Hurst can't go it'll likely be Trevor Penning started back into his starting role. The bigger question is right tackle, with Ramczyk mired in the concussion protocol and Landon Young still out with a hip issue. Guard Cesar Ruiz turned out to be the emergency option late in the loss to the Texans, but it's unlikely that's where the Saints turn again if they have another option.
Quarterback Derek Carr has been on the injury report since Week 3 with a shoulder issue, but he's now added a chest injury and would've been limited had the team practiced Monday. There was some good news in the form of safety Lonnie Johnson getting back to action for the first time since Week 4 when he left with a hamstring injury. RB Jamaal Williams is also listed on the injury report, meaning he's back to practice and could potentially be activated from injured reserve if he's healthy enough to play. Williams has been absent since leaving with a hamstring injury in the Week 2 victory over the Panthers.
On the Jaguars side of the equation the injury report is much shorter, but with just as many major names.
- CB Tyson Campbell (hamstring: DNP
- WR Zay Jones (knee): DNP
- QB Trevor Lawrence (knee): DNP
- OT Walker Little (knee)L DNP
- G Brandon Scherff (ankle): DNP
- DT Davon Hamilton (back): FP
The status of Trevor Lawrence will be watched closely throughout the week, and his head coach said he was day-to-day with his knee injury. If he's unable to go on Thursday, veteran C.J. Beathard would be expected to start in his place.
The Saints (3-3) host the Jaguars (4-2) at the Caesars Superdome to kick off Week 7.
