Saints injury woes continue with CB Bradley Roby sent to IR

Dennis Allen expressed optimism that the Saints would be able to get back a multiple injured players after a 10-day layoff, but we can rule out at least one name from that group.

Veteran cornerback Bradley Roby has been sent to injured reserve. Roby left the game in the first quarter against the Arizona Cardinals with a lower leg injury. Roby would be eligible to return to the active roster as early as Week 12.

The departure struck a significant blow to an already thin secondary heading into the game. Marshon Lattimore and Paulson Adebo were both inactive with injuries of their own, and PJ Williams was already on IR. That left rookie Alontae Taylor and Chris Harris Jr. -- a player elevated from the practice squad -- to man the outside corner spots.

If neither of Adebo or Lattimore return, that could be the setup again barring any more signings throughout the week. The Saints also plan to re-sign WR Keith Kirkwood, who was waived prior to Week 6 to free up a roster spot used to bring Taylor back from IR. The Saints have now designated two players to return from IR (Taylor and DT Malcolm Roach). Only eight players can be sent to IR and brought back throughout the 2022 season.

Other Saints players the Saints are hopeful to get back soon include QB Jameis Winston, WRs Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry, TE Adam Trautman and LG Andrus Peat. The first injury report of the week will be issued Wednesday afteroon.

The Saints, despite a 2-5 start, remain just one game out of the division lead as they welcome the Raiders to the Caesars Superdome in Week 8.
