Saints' local ratings down, report says

The New Orleans Saints have been one of the NFL's top teams when it comes to national ratings this season, but according to a report from NOLA.com local viewership for the Saints is down this year.

According to the report, local ratings for Saints games are down about 13 percent despite New Orleans having the NFL's top-rated national broadcasts with Week 1's game vs. Buccaneers, Week 3's Sunday Night Football matchup against the Packers and Week 2's  Monday Night Football game against Raiders drawing the most viewers through the first five weeks of the 2020 season.

The local rating share this season has been a 41.48 average compared to and average 53.3 over the same stretch in 2019, per the report.

The report also sites data that shows the lower ratings in New Orleans match a national trend of a downturn in television viewing, highlighting the huge ratings drop in the NBA Finals and saying that "total broadcast consumption has fallen by 28% year-over-year."
