Now that the New Orleans Saints' season is over, what's next for the franchise?
The front office will soon get to work putting together next year's squad. According to one analyst, the Saints could get a haul via free agency.
"You're much better financially, cap wise, for free agency," Mike Detillier said to WWL's Tommy Tucker. "My focus there would be: get you two interior offensive linemen."
Detillier says the Saints have two commodities that will attract free agents, quarterback Tyler Shough and offensive tackle Kelvin Banks, Jr.
"You've got your quarterback for the future. You've got your left tackle for the future. Now build around those two guys," Detillier said, pointing to the New England Patriots and the Chicago Bears as two teams that built playoff-caliber teams after drafting hotshot quarterbacks. "Having Tyler Shough do what he did late is going to make a difference in the offseason for free agents. Money's king, but you've got a young quarterback."
Meanwhile, questions linger about whether several veteran leaders on the team will be back. According to Detillier, a couple of them have indicated they want to come back.
"Both Cam Jordan and DeMario (Davis) have talked about wanting to continue to play," Detillier said.
Detillier noted that defensive end Jordan and linebacker Davis would likely sign one-year contracts to continue their careers. According to Detillier, bringing them back would be a smart move for the Saints.
"We've already heard from Cam Jordan and DeMario Davis that they want to continue to play, and if the money is right, I would bring them back," Detillier said
Meanwhile, Taysom Hill's future is less certain, as the Swiss Army Knife has yet to say what his plans are.
"I think that's going to be strictly up to Taysom if he wants to return back and play football again," Detillier said.
Alvin Kamara is locked into playing another season in the NFL. He's entering the second year of a two-year contract with the Saints.
