Saints QB Derek Carr fined $14K for Michael Jackson TD celebration: report

The dance move that Derek Carr broke out in Week 2 to the delight of fans turned out to be an expensive one.

The Saints quarterback has been fined $14,000, according to a report from Pro Football talk, after celebrating a Week 2 rushing touchdown with a Michael Jackson dance move that includes a crotch grab.

The NFL has not yet made its fines for this week public.

Carr's celebration was not penalized in the game and the league even went so far as to promote it and Carr's comments about it on their social channels. The Saints quarterback said "I'm a dancer" and that he had first broken it out at a family function years back, after which his brothers suggested he hit the move after a touchdown at some point.

That point came at AT&T Stadium well into a 44-19 beatdown of the Cowboys.

The fine is not out of character for the NFL, which has a track record of penalizing players for celebrations it deems lewd or inappropriate. Former NFL running back had a similar celebration to cap off some of his runs, one in particular that Saints fans might have a not-so-fond memory of, and he was a frequent target of the NFL's brand of monetary discipline. They did not seem to have an issue with the dance move during his halftime show performance at Super Bowl 27.

The Saints (2-0) host the Eagles (1-1) at the Caesars Superdome in Week 3. Catch all the action on WWL and Audacy.
