Former Saints RT Ryan Ramczyk is now officially retired from the NFL
The New Orleans Saints have officially processed on Monday their second player retirement of the offseason, this time former RT Ryan Ramczyk.
Much like with Derek Carr last week, Ramczyk's retirement was no surprise with the former first-round pick announcing his intentions months earlier. Ramczyk hadn't taken the field since the 2023 season due to knee issues.
The Saints opted to wait until after June 1 to process both retirements so they could retain the ability to split those cap hits over two seasons. The Saints will have to absorb dead cap hits of just over $11 million over the next two seasons.
After being picked in 2017 with an extra first-round selection acquired from the Patriots for Brandin Cooks, Ramczyk formed a bookend with Terron Armstead at LT and a group that helped lead the Saints to the most wins in the NFL over a four-year stretch. Ramczyk was never selected to a Pro Bowl, but did land on three separate All-Pro teams and at one point was the highest-paid right tackle in the NFL. Armstead also retired this offseason after playing the past three seasons with the Miami Dolphins.
Ramczyk, noticeably slimmed down from his playing weight, could be seen on stage at this year's NFL draft announcing the Saints' Day 2 selections.
The Saints have been working diligently to find their next star tackle tandem, taking a first-round prospect in three of the past four drafts. The team is expected to go into the 2025 season with all three of those picks starting, with rookie Kelvin Banks Jr. at left tackle, Taliese Fuaga at right tackle and Trevor Penning moving to left guard.
