The news cycle this week has been dominated by the stern message sent down by Saints team owner Gayle Benson, and she also chose to make an appearance during the final practice of the week before the team departs on an extended road trip.
The Saints team owner, days after describing the team's ugly start as "not acceptable, could be spotted early in Friday's session arriving in a golf cart and embracing head coach Kellen Moore on the sideline. The two chatted briefly before Benson departed and practice resumed.
“It’s always good to see Mrs. B," Moore said. "She likes to pop in and catch some practice here and there and so it’s always good to see here. She’s obviously been great and she’s always supportive.”
Moore noted that the pair had spoken during the week relative to the comments made during her speech at the Greater New Orleans QB Club.
“We have the same goal. We all want to win football games so we’re working toward that," Moore continued. "I thought this was a good week for our guys, coaches, players, really good week of practice.”

To that end the Saints have ruled out two players for their Week 6 matchup with the Giants, a game in which the Saints can start to change the narrative of their season after three straight home losses. Those players are LB Kaden Elliss (calf) and DE Anfernee Jennings (knee), both of whom will miss their third consecutive game. The good news came for a pair of players in Chris Olave and Nathan Shepherd, both of whom got back to practice after missing multiple days with an illness. Shepherd was a late scratch from last week's game for the same reason. Both have been listed as questionable.
Here's how the full injury report broke down on Friday:
LP = limited participation; FP = full participation; DNP = did not participate
- DT Vernon Broughton (illness): LP | LP | FP
- LB Kaden Elliss (calf): DNP | DNP | DNP - out
- DT Davon Godchaux (NIR-rest): n/a | DNP | FP
- LB Anfernee Jennings (knee): DNP | DNP | DNP - out
- RB Alvin Kamara (back): LP | LP | LP - questionable
- WR Chris Olave (illness): DNP | DNP | LP - questionable
- DT Nathan Shepherd (illness): DNP | DNP | LP - questionable

- LB Tyree Wilson (ankle): LP | FP | FP
- LS Zach Wood (calf): FP | FP | FP - questionable
- DT Colby Wooden (toe): LP | FP | FP
- OL Jeremiah Wright (concussion): FP | FP | FP
The Saints appear primed to get long snapper Zach Wood back from injured reserve after a four-game absence, the first games he's missed since joining the Saints in 2017. RB Alvin Kamara also continues to be limited due to a back injury and has been listed as questionable. He played in Week 5 but logged just 12 snaps and three carries, both the lowest totals among Saints RBs on the day.
The Giants side of the injury report has much bigger questions, with both starting tackles listed as questionable and three players ruled out.
- S Elijah Campbell (thumb): FP | FP | FP
- LB Abdul Cater (calf): DNP | DNP | LP - questionable
- OT Jermaine Eluemenor (calf): DNP | DNP | LP - questionable
- RB Najee Harris (ribs): FP | FP | FP
- LB Malik Harrison (groin): n/a | LP | FP

- S Tyler Nubin (neck): DNP | DNP | DNP - out
- S Jason Pinnock (concussion): LP | FP | FP
- OT Andrew Thomas (groin): DNP | DNP | LP - questionable
Each of Jermaine Eluemenor (calf), Abdul Carter (calf) and Andrew Thomas (groin) were upgraded to limited on Friday after missing the first two practices of the week. Starting safety Tyler Nubin and TE Theo Johnson have both been ruled out due to neck injuries. Johnson caught a pair of touchdowns against the Saints when these teams met in Week 5 of last season.
The Saints (1-4) and Giants (3-1-1) face off at noon, Sunday inside MetLife Stadium. Catch all the action on WWL and Audacy.
