The Saints released longtime punter Thomas Morstead Thursday.
Morstead has spent his entire career with the Saints since being drafted by the franchise in 2009 and has been widely recognized as one of the NFL's best punters.
Following the announcement of his release several of Morstead's now former teammates posted heartfelt messages for the specialist on their social media accounts.
"Our time as teammates will never be taken for granted," Saints kicker Wil Lutz wrote on his Instagram account. "For five years we butted heads like brothers because we both were chasing greatness. You always picked me up when things were tough, but more importantly kept me down when things were great.
"Salute to one of the best punters in the game, but more importantly one of the best people in the bizz! The Saints weight room will never be the same."
Saints punter Blake Gillikin, who Morstead endorsed as a candidate to replace himself, thanked him for sharing his knowledge and being a good both on and off the field.
