Saints sign former Dolphins WR Cedrick Wilson to 2-year deal

The Saints haven't made any major splashes in the 2024 free agency period, but they have made a handful of smaller moves to fill out the roster.

The latest addition is wide receiver Cedrick Wilson, whom the team signed to a 2-year-deal after a pair of quiet seasons with the Dolphins.

Wilson, 28, was a 6th round picks of the Cowboys in 2018 and flashed his potential with 46 catches for 602 yards and six touchdowns in the 2021 season. His two years in Miami, playing behind stars Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, saw just 34 total catches for 432 yards and three touchdowns.

Still, Wilson offers clear upside on a low-end deal, and he also comes from an offense that should have similarities to the one that will be installed by new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak in New Orleans. Wilson is coming out of Mike McDaniel's system, which was heavily influenced by his time with Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers.

With the departure of veteran Michael Thomas, the WR room now consists of Wilson and a trio of young players in Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed and A.T. Perry. It's likely there will be one or more additions to that group in the free agency period, though the Saints could opt to mine the draft and UDFA field to fill out the roster.

Wilson's signing is the latest understated move in an understated offseason that has featured five signings. That group also includes a pair of fullbacks in Adam Prentice and Zander Horvath, journeyman QB Nathan Peterman and former Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay.
