Saints sign RB depth amid rash of injuries; Erik McCoy, Kendre Miller to IR

The New Orleans Saints have made a pair of moves to bolster running back depth after a pair of significant injuries in Week 7.

The Saints announced Tuesday that they had reverted RB Kendre Miller (torn ACL) and center Erik McCoy (torn biceps) to injured reserve, while signing RB Velus Jones Jr. to the active roster and former Broncos RB Audric Estime to the practice squad.

Jones is a converted WR who started the season on the active roster but was primarily a special teams contributor. He could be in for an increased role, along with rookie Devin Neal.

Estime is an intriguing addition for this team, a player who spent 2024 with the Denver Broncos, where he appeared in 13 games and logged 310 yards and two touchdowns on 76 carries. He was waived midseason and landed on the Eagles practice squad where Saints head coach Kellen Moore was the offensive coordinator. The Saints got a good look at Estime in 2024 when he ran for 29 yards on five carries in the Caesars Superdome.

The Saints have one more roster spot open, but that is likely to be used to activate DT John Ridgeway, who has been practicing for the past three weeks but had yet to be brought back from IR to the active roster.

The Saints (1-6) host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-2) on Sunday at 3:05 p.m. in the Caesars Superdome. Catch all the action on WWL and Audacy.
