Saints signing veteran RB Nyheim Hines to practice squad amid injury blitz: report

The New Orleans Saints are bringing in veteran running back help amid a rash of injuries at the position.

With rookie Devin Neal already ruled out for Week 16 with a hamstring injury, the Saints have signed Nyheim Hines to the practice squad, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The move makes sense, with veteran Alvin Kamara still out due to knee and ankle injuries and Kendre Miller done for the year with a torn ACL. The bulk of the workload for Week 16 will still likely be carried by Audric Estime and Evan Hull, both of whom were also signed to the practice squad midseason and who have since been signed to the active roster.

HInes, a former 4th round pick of the Colts back in 2018, is an intriguing name with multiple seasons to his credit of more than 700 total yards. Hines also had a short stint with the Colts in the 2022 season. He cracked the 40-reception mark four times in his run with the Colts, but missed the 2023 and 2024 seasons due to major injuries suffered during a jetski crash when he was struck by another rider.

He made his NFL return in 2025 as a member of the L.A. Chargers, appearing in three games, logging -2 yards on 3 rushing attempts.

The Saints (4-10) have won back-to-back games and host the N.Y. Jets (3-11) at noon, Sunday inside the Caesars Superdome. Catch all the action on WWL and Audacy.
