Saints UDFA Smoke Monday believed to have suffered 'significant' knee injury: report

Bad news struck the Saints secondary on Tuesday, with UDFA Smoke Monday potentially out for an extended period of time due to injury.

The rookie safety is believed to have suffered a "significant knee injury" during Tuesday's practice, according to a report from Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network. It's unclear at what point of practice the injury occurred, with work held indoors due to inclement weather.

Monday was one of the first UDFAs announced as Saints signees after he went undrafted, a surprise to many analysts, earlier this year. With an intriguing combination of size, speed and hard-hitting ability, he profiled as a potential contributor in the Saints' secondary, though his position on the roster was far from won.

An Atlanta native, Monday said he was always a Drew Brees fan, and was a standout at Auburn prior to joining the Saints.
