Saints swing trade for Cowboys tackle amid roster cuts: report
The New Orleans Saints didn't want to wait around to address their offensive line depth, swinging a trade for a depth piece from the Dallas Cowboys.
The Saints obtained third-year pro Asim Richards from the Cowboys, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Saints sent a 2028 6th rounder to Dallas in exchange for a Cowboys 2028 7th rounder.
Richards, 24, played left tackle at North Carolina for three season before becoming a 5th round selection of Dallas in 2023. He's played primarily left tackle at the NFL level, but has seen some work at the guard spots. It's unclear whether he'd have landed on the Cowboys final roster or been available on waivers.
The Saints' depth at tackle became a clear issue after a season-ending ankle injury to Landon Young in the preseason finale. The Saints also opted to cut tackles Josiah Ezirim and Easton Kilty, who could've potentially filled in behind starters Kelvin Banks and Taliese Fuaga.
The Saints have to trim down to 53 by 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
