Saints TEs Foster Moreau, Taysom Hill set for practice return after long injury absences

The New Orleans Saints are still seeking their first win of the 2025 season, but they are getting some good news ahead of Week 5.

That news is that TEs Taysom Hill and Foster Moreau are expected to practice for the first time since both suffered major knee injuries during the 2024 season. Hill's injury came in a Week 13 loss to the Rams, while Moreau's came on the final offensive drive of the year in a loss to the Bucs.

"Obviously it’s been a long journey for those guys," head coach Kellen Moore said on Monday. "Excited to see those guys just out there with a helmet on and actually do a little bit of football.”

Both players have been seen frequently around the facility and at practice and have remained engaged, though a return this week against the Giants would seem unlikely. Both players began the season on the PUP list and will have a 21-day practice window before the Saints will either have to add them to the active roster or shut them down for the season.

If and when both players are available they'll join a tight end room that is notably thin behind Juwan Johnson, with journeyman Jack Stoll taking on an outsized role to this point in the season. There will also be a question as to exactly what role Hill will play, with the head coach being complimentary but ultimately vague when asked about it.

“Taysom is obviously a tremendous football player, he does a lot of different things," Moore said. "He’s got a unique skillset that is tough to replicate and match in this league. ... He’s obviously had such an impact on this organization for such a long time and whenever that time comes that he’s back on the field we’ll be fired up.”

Hill has been a do-it-all player throughout the majority of his career, but he'd focused on the tight end role as well as a wildcat QB in the past three season with Dennis Allen at the helm.

There was some negative injury news as well, with Moore indicating that RG Cesar Ruiz is likely to miss extended time with an ankle injury that forced him to leave the Week 4 loss to the Bills late in the second quarter.

The Saints will hold their first official practice of the week on Wednesday.
