Saints waive RB Tony Jones Jr., sign depth guard ahead of Week 5 vs Patriots

The New Orleans Saints made a handful of moves ahead of their Week 5 showdown with the New England Patriots.

Guard Tommy Kraemer is being signed to the active roster, giving the team added guard depth with veteran James Hurst landing on the injury report late in the week. He and Andrus Peat (concussion) are both questionable for the game.

In a corresponding move, the Saints have waived RB Tony Jones Jr., forecasting confidence in rookie Kendre Miller to back up Alvin Kamara, who returned in Week 4. Jones had taken an increased role following a hamstring injury to Jamaal Williams, running for a pair of touchdowns in a Week 2 win over the Panthers.

The Saints have also elevated safeties Johnathan Abram and Daniel Sorenson from the practice squad. Safety is another position with depth concerns. Marcus Maye is out one more week due to suspension, and Lonnie Johnson Jr. has been declared out with a hamstring injury.

The Saints (2-2) and Patriots (1-3) face off at noon in Foxborough on Sunday.
