Saints waive struggling WR Bryan Edwards

After a difficult stretch with the Saints out in L.A., the Saints and wide receiver Bryan Edwards have parted ways.

Head coach Dennis Allen announced the move Tuesday afternoon following the team's practice in Metairie. He was one of 14 players not in attendance.

The decision wasn't particularly surprising with Edwards struggling throughout camp, and those struggles coming to a head at SoFi Stadium on Sunday in a 22-17 victory over the Chargers. The former Raiders and Falcons WR was targeted four times with zero catches. One of those drops came in the end zone on a pass from Jake Haener. That play was sandwiched by a pair of offensive pass interference penalties on the same drive, both of which negated touchdown passes.

The move leaves the Saints with a roster spot available ahead of the preseason finale against the Texans on Sunday. They could opt not to take advantage of that spot, though, considering they'll have to cut down to the 53-man roster by 3 p.m. on Aug. 29.

The Saints will continue to get heavy work for rookies A.T. Perry and Shaq Davis, both of whom have shined in the first two preseason games.
