Saints WR Chris Olave arrested for alleged reckless driving in Kenner: report

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave was in jail Monday evening after a motor vehicle infraction in Kenner, according to reports.

The 23-year-old was taken into custody by Kenner Police after he was reportedly clocked going 70 miles per hour on Joe Yenni Boulevard, with the posted speed limit set at 35 mph.


Olave was being processed Monday evening and was expected to be released from custody within hours.

Olave's brother, Chris, took to social media to explain the incident.

"Bro was on the way back to the crib from CVS," he posted. "ain't nun serious."

In Louisiana, a first conviction for reckless operation of a motor vehicle comes with a fine of up to $200 and a could be penalized with a maximum prison sentence of up to 90 days. A second conviction would carry a minimum sentence of 10 days -- maxing out at 6 months -- and a fine no more than $500.

Reckless operation is described in the Louisiana code as "the operation of any motor vehicle, aircraft, vessel, or other means of conveyance in a criminally negligent or reckless manner."

As of Monday evening, the Saints had not yet made an official statement on Olave's arrest. The second-year-pro has been active in each of the Saints' first 7 games of the season. Olave does not have a documented history of legal issues nor has he incurred any prior discipline from the league.

New Orleans is next in action on Sunday when it travels to face the Indianapolis Colts.
